1. What is the examination for? Who conducts it?


VITEEE is an entrance examination for B.Tech UG course in VIT University. It is a private university and is responsible for the conduction of examination and result generation.

2. What is/are the college/colleges covered under this examination?


VITEEE is the entrance examination of Vellore Institute of Technology, a deemed university which has its main campus in Vellore, TN and a relatively new campus in Chennai, TN. Its Bangalore campus is expected to be functional by 2015. VIT Vellore is currently one of the top 10 PRIVATE engineering colleges in India.

4. What is the eligibility criterion?


Eligibility Conditions:

1. Student should have given 12TH CBSE/ICSE/ State board examinations (or)
Intermediate or 2 year Pre University Examination conducted by a legit University (or)
High School Certificate Examination of Cambridge/ Diploma of Internal Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
(or) GCE examination (Sri Lanka/ Cambridge/ London) at advanced A level.

2. Must have scored at least:
60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology) for General candidates
50% aggregate for SC/ST candidates and citizens of J&K, north eastern states.

5. What is the examination pattern of VITEEE?



VITEEE is a computer based online examination hence student should be aware of computer applications. The duration of examination is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Students who attempt Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for all branches in the UG programme. Students who attempt Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for Biotech, Bio-Medical and Bio-Informatics only.

There are 40 questions in each subject with one mark for every correct answer. The total is evaluated out of 120.

6. What is the generalised selection procedure?



VIT has a separate entrance examination altogether for enrolment. The exam date is variable and generally it is held during April (9th-20th in 2014) and the results are out shortly after, generally during 1st week of May.

Following this is an in person counselling in VIT Vellore or Chennai, where students from AIR 1- AIR 99,999 (2014 statistics) are called.

9. What reference books should be consulted?


The course of VITEEE is almost the same as that of JEE Mains with a few topics added and a few topics omitted but they do not really account for much difference. Still in addition, “Comprehensive Guide to VITEEE” and some mock tests of the same would be enough for the study material.

10. What are the opening and closing ranks of VIT, Vellore and VIT, Chennai campuses respectively?


Generally, because of being the more established campus VIT, Vellore consumes most of the top rankers, at least in the core branches. Then the lower branches of Vellore and top branches of Chennai fill up together. For Core branches the approximate Cut off rank from the general trends followed in the last 3-4 years would be:

11. How is the student accommodation in VIT?


VIT, Vellore can be credited with having one of the best, if not the best infrastructure and facilities available amongst engineering colleges. Strict rules are followed in hostels and there is a time deadline. There are 13 boys’ hostels providing accommodation to 7000 students and there are 4 girls’ hostels providing accommodation to 3200 students. A gym, a swimming pool as well as paid Air-conditioning facilities are available in the hostels.

12. How are the placements in VIT?


At last, we come to perhaps what is the most important question of them all. VIT University, because of being a reputed private university is known for good placements. The university was credited for 3042 undergraduate placements in 2013-14 batch.

A total of 248 companies attended the university for on campus placements. Major recruiters include Accenture, Cognizent, Wipro and Infosys.
