Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest field of engineering. Thus, it finds applications in all the fields of technology used today in the world. Mechanical engineer has a huge scope in terms of employment as they can work in many industries including private or public sector industries of various types, and their work varies by industry and function. As there is an exponential expansion in the industrial sector, the employment opportunity for mechanical has flown out of the roof.

Any fresher, in a government sector can join as junior engineer and climb up the ladder of success by getting timely promotions. Mechanical engineers are essentially required in automobile, chemical, electronics, steel plants, oil exploration and refining, technical wings of armed forces, space research organisation, etc. Any individual having a post-graduate degree or diploma can find various opportunities in administrative and managerial positions in government departments or public and private sector industries or can do research as well as teaching in Research and teaching institutes. There is also a prospect of working as an independent consultant or can work in technical sales/marketing. There are various government departments including Post and Telegraphs, Defence, PWD, and CPWD which provide employment to a huge number of mechanical engineers. Mechanical engineers play an important role in the agricultural sector by establishing service centres for maintenance of tractors, oil engines, pump sets, electric motors and other agricultural tools.
