It is the process of discussing, debating and even threatening to arrive at an agreement for those being represented. Collective bargaining is a process by which the terms and conditions of workers are regulated by agreement between their bargaining agents and employers.

This bargaining may be for wages and other employment conditions. Both the employer and employee may start with different views but finally they try to reach a compromise, making some sacrifice.

Why collective bargaining takes place in an organization?


The main reasons for collective bargaining may be-

• To settle the dispute or conflicts related to wages and working conditions.

• To protect the interests of workers through collective action.

• To resolve the differences between management and workers.

• To avoid third party intervention in matters relating to employment.
