What does prosthetic and orthotics mean?


Prosthetic is one of the fields of health care profession which deals with supplying and maintaining artificial limbs for people who were either born without or have lost a limb in accident or due to any other cause.

Orthotics is concerned with the design, manufacture and application of artificial limbs which is called orthosis.
Thus, Prosthetic and Orthotics are allied health care professions which are concerned with the fabricating, manufacturing, evaluation, maintaining the artificial limbs (arms, hands, legs, and feet), braces, and other medical or surgical devices for the affected people. These professions are similar and an individual may be both an orthotist and a prosthetist.

Who are prosthetist and Orthotist?


The health care professional who practice in the field of prosthetic and orthotics are called prosthetist and orthotists.
