What is market positioning?

Market positioning tells us what image has been formed of a product or where it stands in the mind of the target consumer. This depends upon the promotional strategies used by the company in gaining the attention of the consumers. Several companies use their USPs or unique selling proposition as a strategy to promote their goods and services in the market. These may include ‘best quality’, ‘best service’, ‘lowest price’, ‘best value’ and so on. In order to be a ‘face in the crowd’, it becomes essential for the organization to create and maintain a distinctive positioning for itself in the market.
