What is tertiary packaging?

Tertiary packaging is one of the three types of packaging – (the other two being primary and secondary packaging). It is used by manufactured goods and is used to protect such goods. This kind of packaging is not really meant for consumers but more for retailers who remove the packaging before displaying the products for sale. Generally this kind of packaging is common among export firms which have the need to protect their manufactured goods meant for the export purpose. Examples of such packaging are goods being packed in brown cardboard boxes or cartons, cartons sealed in transparent labelled plastic, wooden boxes etc.
