What is the need of flashing the BIOS?

The BIOS need to be flashed for one of the following reasons:

- New processor support: The BIOS allows the motherboard to recognize and support a processor that is installed on it. Many motherboards by default cannot support new processors that have been released after the motherboard was released. By flashing the BIOS the motherboard may be able to support the new processor.

- Larger capacity hard disks support: A motherboard with its old BIOS version may not be able to support new larger capacity disks. This may be resolved by flashing the BIOS of the motherboard with a new version.

- Bug fixes: The initial releases of a BIOS might contain bugs which can hinder the normal functioning of the computer. This problem can be generally fixed with the flashing of a more updated / recent BIOS version.
