A veterinarian works with animals, both small and large, birds and reptiles. The foremost quality that a veterinarian should exhibit is love for animals and a genuine concern for their well being. Some of the typical responsibilities of a veterinary surgeon include:

- Providing medication to animals who are suffering from some disease, allergy or infection

- Vaccinating animals against infectious disease such as rabies

- Performing surgeries, dressing wounds and setting the fractured bones
