World's First Air Cleansing Poem Printed

Pollution is a menace to the health and welfare of people. UK researchers have developed the first air-cleansing poem printed on material that can eradicate air pollution caused by 20 cars on a single day. The material has been put together by researchers at the University of Sheffield to remove nitrogen oxide from the atmosphere.

The poem was printed by poet Simon Armitage who is a professor at the University of Sheffield. He collaborated with the pro-vice chancellor for science Tony Ryan to write this poem called “In Praise of Air”. This poem is printed on unique material that is capable of purifying its surroundings. This technology is extremely affordable and it can be used for billboards and ads along the busy roads to cut pollution, according to researchers.

The material on which the poem is printed has a coating of microscopic pollution eating particles of titanium oxide to make use of sunlight and oxygen to interact with nitrogen oxide pollutants and cleanse the air. This is the perfect collaboration between science and arts to clean the poor quality of air in modern towns and cities.

The poem will be displayed at the University's Alfred Denny Building on the Western Bank for one year. The material on account of which this works is an additive that delivers an environmental benefit to cut the ill effects of pollution and save human lives.

Every banner, ad poster or flag in the country has the potential to clean its air. This could lead to the birth of advertising with a difference. It would add less than 100 pounds to the poster or ad's cost. These will turn ads into catalysts for passing on the message for cleaner air and a greener earth.

Cars have become a major source of pollution and cleaning the emissions is very important for improving the state of the roads. Ryan had campaigned to ensure that his ingredient is added to washing detergent as part of the Catalytic Clothing project in the UK.

Air pollution has been threatening the welfare of earth's inhabitants for a long time now. The severe air pollution has the ability to impact the welfare of several nations across the world. WHO has indicated that air pollution has led to the death of millions of people each year.

Besides the deteriorating quality of air, air pollution also leads to the emission of greenhouse gases which cause global warming. This has also led to climate change and a massive shift in rainfall patterns. The recent heavy rainfall induced flooding and landslides in the Balkans or the difference in rainfall patterns in south India are linked by scientists to global warming.

Global warming has caused a lot of damage to loss and livelihoods. It has threatened the existence of mankind and initiated several imbalances in nature. There are numerous instances of massive natural disasters caused by climate change. National disaster committees of most nations are looking to mitigate the effects of global warming.

Besides curbing vehicular emissions and reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere through regulation of industrial waste, another positive step towards eliminating air pollution could be the use of such technologies. Technology has the ability to change the quality of life and prevent global warming from becoming a bigger threat.
