XAT 2014 - Xavier Aptitude Test

Introduction to XAT


XAT – Xavier Aptitude Test is conducted by XLRI for admission to management courses at XLRI and other XAT Associate Member Institutes (XAMI).

There are more than 100 institutes which use the score of XAT to get the candidates for their campuses. Application to take XAT does not automatically entitle you for admission to XLRI or other member institutes. The candidates need to register and apply separately to every institute they are interested in getting admitted to.

Who’s Eligible?


- Candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree of 3 years or equivalent qualification in any domain from a recognized university in India or abroad.

- Students appearing for their final year graduation exams are also eligible to appear for the test.

- Each institute may have a different date for the final year results to be made available.

- NRI/ Foreign students can take the test as per the regular procedure.

- Every institute has a different admission policy for NRI/ Foreign students. They need to check the individual websites of the institutes they seek admission to.

How’s the test conducted?


- XAT is a pen and paper based test.

- The selection process of every XAT member after the test is different.

- Different institutes provide different weightage to each section of the test, depending on their requirement.

- The score of GK and Essay writing section is not considered for percentile calculation and cut off during the first stage. XLRI and some other institutes use it for final selection.

- The final selection process is different at each institute usually consisting of GD, PI.

Test Pattern


- Time : 3 hrs.

- The Paper 1 consists of 3 sections, Verbal Ability, Decision Making and Quantitative Aptitude.

- The Paper 2 consists of General Awareness and Essay Writing.

- XAT awards one-fourth negative marks for every wrong answer.

Not all the institutes consider General Awareness and Essay Writing for short listing. The institutes which require it are provided the score of this paper.

- Online XAT Registration: August 12 – Nov 22, 2013
- Online XLRI Programme Registration : Sept 2 – Dec 21, 2013
- XAT Confirmation page to be received by XAT Office - Last date 27 Nov, 2013 (only for candidates paying by cash or DD)
- XLRI Confirmation page to be received by admissions office - Dec 26, 2013 (Applicable to all candidates applying for XLRI programmes)
- XAT 2014 admit card - Available for download during Dec 18 – 31, 2013
- XAT 2014 exam date – Sunday, Jan 05, 2014
- Mailing of XAT Score card – By mid February
