Yaogan-23 Launched By China: 198th Mission For Long March Rocket Family

China launched remote sensing satellite Yaogan-23 from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre on 15th November, 2014. This satellite was carried by the Long March 2-c rocket. This is the 198th mission of the Long March rocket project. The Yaogan-23 will be deployed mainly for scientific experiments, crop yield estimates, national resource surveys and disaster relief.

The first satellite in the Yaogan series was launched by China in the year 2006. It has been termed as Yaogan-1. China is planning to launch around 70 remote sensing satellites for the detection of the space environment near earth and predict extreme events. China is also set to launch around 20 communication satellites for meeting demand for communication for national security and public services. China is also set to launch 30 navigation satellites for providing accurate and reliable global positioning as well as navigation services.

State run Xinhua news agency reported that “The satellite Yaogan-23 will mainly be used for scientific experiments, natural resource surveys, crop yield estimates and disaster relief.” New satellite was put into orbit amidst plans for China to launch around 120 more applied satellites to “accommodate economic and social needs”. This announcement was made on November 10th by China.

Yang Baohua, deputy general manager of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, indicated the Chinese economy will continue to record relatively high growth, generating and creating more demand for aerospace technologies. He did not specify the time span during which the satellite’s launch will be conducted. "We will focus on building a self-controlled national space infrastructure that can operate continuously and stably for a long time," Baohua indicated said.

NASA has reported that this was another surprise launch was conducted with the new satellite in the Yaogan Weixing series. This missile utilising the Long March-2C/Chang Zheng-2C rocket from the LC901 launch platform of the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre. Western analysts, as indicated in a NASA report, are of the opinion that this class of satellite will be used for military purposes as well. The Satellites are built by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology. This was the 201th Chinese orbital launch and the 198th successful one.

This is the 49th successful orbital launch from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre. This is the 4th launch from this space centre in 2014 according to NASA. It is also the 10th orbital launch for China this year, NASA reports. China has been on a path to achievement for some time now. The Asian superpower has laid the foundations of stronger BRIC relations and also moved into areas of expertise in a wide range of fields including economy as well as science and technology.

China’s stupendous success and its growing influence in the world point to the rise of the Orient in the world. Given its massive success in the field of manufacturing, China has conquered many a milestone on its path to growth and development.
