You have worked with your current company for quite a long time, why?

There are many people who do not change their job for years and when they go out looking for a new employer, this is one of the most common question they are asked. Some people might look upon staying with the same employer for long as “being unambitious”.

A good answer to this question can be something like, “Yes, you are right. I stayed with my last employer for almost 5 years but I was continuously growing in the company, doing new things, handling bigger challenges & responsibilities. So, I was quite happy working with them for these many years.”

You can then go on to discuss how you grew with your last employer.

You have to highlight that you tackled, faced, adapted and conquered changing conditions at your present firm. Since you have held many different responsibilities and adapted easily, you don't see any problem in adjusting to new challenging environment.

  • The purpose of probing this question is to comprehend how well you will be able to adapt to the new milieu and working ethics, peculiarly when you are habituated to your current organisation’s milieu and ethics.

While responding to this question you should be referring to those instances that will give a positive stance of you being associated with the company for a long tenure.

For example: If you are associated with an IT firm, you can say since there were new projects handed over to you quite often, you did not feel the need to change as you were able to grow professionally as well as personally.

For Example: If you are associated with a non – IT firm, you could state that you were transferred to different roles and departments because of which you were able to develop many new skills and was able to easily adapt to the new challenges of the changing environment. It also helped you build good relations with you subordinates, peers and seniors.

Or you could also highlight your promotions and growth graph in the organisation and hence you did not feel the need to change the organisation.
