    - The patterns which are made in two or more pieces are known as split pattern

    - Sometimes complex patterns are very difficult to make in one piece. Therefore, these patterns are made in two or more pieces to overcome these difficulties.

    - The pattern which is made in two pieces is called as two piece split pattern and the pattern which is made in more than two pieces is called as multi-piece pattern

    - In two piece split pattern, one half of the pattern rests in upper part of the moulding box and other half rests in lower part of the moulding box.

    - The upper part of the moulding box is called as cope and the lower part is called as drag

    - The line of separation of the two parts is known as parting line or parting surface
