Digital India initiatives and their advantages

Digital India initiatives and their advantages

“All one needs is a computer, a network connection, and a bright spark of initiative and creativity to join the economy.” - Don Tapscott. This is increasingly becoming true nowadays. The Digital India initiative aims to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It aims to connect entire India digitally in the span of 4 years i.e. till 2018-19.

Envisaged by the department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), the vision of Digital India is focuses on - Digital Infrastructure as a utility to every citizen, Governance & services on demand and Digital Empowerment of citizens. It wants to bridge the digital divide and bring India at par with the developed nations. It will combine many existing schemes related to e-governance, other digital initiatives etc.; restructure them and implement them in a synchronized manner under this umbrella initiative named as ‘Digital India’.

Initiatives under Digital India and their advantages

- The main initiative under Digital India is the ‘National Optic Fiber Network’. Started much earlier in 2011, it was an ambitious program to connect 2.5Lakh Gram Panchayats through broadband. It would be pursued with renewed vigor, planning and monitoring.

Nine pillars of growth areas which would be focused are

Broadband Highways – High speed connectivity and high speed internet

Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity – To reach inaccessible areas also

Public Internet Access Programme – Connect India to the world and newer ideas. It’s a National Rural Internet Mission.

E-Governance Improving governance using technology. This is to improve the government to citizen interface for various service deliveries.

E-Kranti – Deliver services electronically and thus in a faster and time bound manner. This is helpful in education, healthcare, planning, security, financial inclusion, justice, farmers, etc.

Information for all - This will bring in transparency and accountability by easy and open access to documents and information to the citizens.

Electronics manufacturing – This will encourage manufacturing of electronics in India and reduce electronics import and help in job creation too. This will help in achieving goals of ‘Make in India’ initiative also.

IT for jobs – Employment opportunities will be increased as well as training aspect will be focused on under ‘Skill India’ program. Focus will be more on IT training.

Early Harvest program – This has a number of programs under it which are to be implemented within a short timeline. They addresses development in variety of sectors like education (school as well as university level), weather forecast, telecom, social problems like lost and found children, etc.

- Cloud facility will be available. Thus all government documents/certificates will be available on the Cloud.

- The digital resources/services will be available in Indian languages.

- ‘MyGov.in’ will help in participative governance.

- Financial transactions would become cashless above a threshold.

- Safe and secure cyber space would be provided.

- Many other minor initiatives and services will be provided digitally by the government. It has already started providing many services.

- All the above initiatives will open up opportunities to Indian manufacturers and entrepreneurs, thus helping employment in a direct and indirect way.

A Note on Digital India –

- Digital India is a modified and expanded version of the national e-governance plan. It seeks to deliver all government services electronically.

- It also will address the issues of public accountability and transparency through a unique ID and e-Pramaan based on authentic and standard government applications. Fully online delivery will help a lot in this venture. It will reduce corruption.

- Though it may not be a new vision, the energy and efforts that are being put in are noteworthy. The budget is increased almost five-folds.

- It will benefit many sectors like IT/ITeS, Power sector, Education sector, Telecom sector, Electronics manufacturing, Banking and Financial sector, etc.

- It will connect the entire India and bring to the forefront all the hidden talent and entrepreneurs that constitute the country’s future.

- It will help in achieving universal digital literacy.

- A dedicated monitoring committee headed by the PM as chairman is constituted to oversee the target achievement in a time bound manner.

- This project will certainly help in improving the Ease of Doing Business. India ranked 134 in Ease of Doing Business in 2014 as per the World Bank.

- The government’s resolve to implement such ambitious program can be seen in the JAM trinity solution – Jan Dhan Yojana for financial inclusion and direct benefit transfers based on Aadhaar infrastructure and mobile interface for banking. Tele-medicines, Smart cities, Digital Locker System, eSign, eHospital, Digitize India Platform (DIP) for large scale digitization of records, etc. are other programs which will be implemented. This project will definitely help us in increasing productivity and reap our demographic dividend.

Great things is that government think first for development of rural areas in the field of enducation ,itheir living style and provide employment opportunities . They also wants to connect each n every gram panchayat of india to rest of the world digitally by end of 2019. At the same time it helps in providing e-governace that will help in reducing corruption and transparency.

  • Being one of the most appreciating as well as innovative initiative of the govt.,this scheme also helps to cut off the ever increasing rate of pollution;therby making itself one of the most eco-friendly initiative of the govt...besides the increasing rate of development of infrastucture, fulfilment of make-in india prospects and enrichment of human skill and knowledge, this digital india scheme will lessen the pollution be it air, water or noise in a very remarkable way since it will reduce the no. of trees being cut down for the purpose of paper-making as this scheme is concerning upon the maximum use of internet for various services and hence as per my opinion digital india scheme is not only one the most important step towards country's development and the economy's improvement in all the vivid sectors but also a bonus for the protection of country's great biodiversity and natural resources;besides enrichment of the skill of the people in urban and rural areas as well. Therefore digital india scheme can be proved to be a boon for our country.

  • It is a very good and required intiative by government. In todays world digitisation must in every sector. It will save very precious time and its accuracy is also more.In india almost 60 to 70 percent of different sectors are digitized, the basic digitisation mainly includes wireless communication i.e mobile connectivity.still we have many villages in our country are not having mobile connectivity so first we have to work for that. After that every grama pnachayithi should have a computer with internet connectivity which are linked to thier reslective mandal offices so that any issues related to the villages will be solved with in less time as possible. The main advantage with the digitisation is that employment is also increses which will lead to growth of the country. the best example for employability due to digitisation is introducing MeeSeva for the issue of government certifiactes which gives self employability to many people.

  • digital india a screnaio which we image as the everything on net quick and steady. there are many advantages of digital india as it will create employment; increase in literacy rate ; increase in the economy ; transparency in goverment functioning; decrease in corruption; quick judgement in the law sector and increase in women empowerment as the online business may be promoted by women; but for a digital india we need to have a system where such things can be established ..today no doubt one third population of india have mobile phone and of which 75% have internet ...but what about the remaining people ..people of old age and ancient time are not capable to handle the mobile system and anroid phone how the goverment will train them? net neturality proposal is rejected by major net providers at such case will it be able for the people to use the net at the rate the company is provided there may also be problem of network or no range in many areas at that time people may suffer some loss....thus before the proposal of digital india a need for net neutrality and a goverment net connection accesible to all is needed.

other wise the proposal is whole heartily accepted by me

  • Digital India is definitely an appreciable initiative. It can take India forward in every way on the universal front. We can say that converting this dream of 'Digital India' to reality is the need of the hour. In an era where everything is linked to Internet, we need to get along those lines to match our footprints globally.

Internet has made its point to a good extent in Indian lives. We already have our youth getting addicted to the network of Internet. If we can guide them properly and show the positive way, we can utilise the energyu of these youth to turn India to a digital world, which could help many residing in the nook and corner of the country without any connection with the day-to-day happenings of the world.

Not only the young girls can get educated in rural part of the country, but we can also get our adults get educated. Through the digital India initiative, we can promote technological application in rural parts of India, which would be the most important step towards the development of the nation. When our majority citizens get educated to the level of understanding and using the technology for their day-to-day use, then we can expect better understanding of the wordly affairs which would thereby help in the personal grooming of the citizens towards the path of success of the nation.
