Entitling civil servants for free treatment abroad is a welcome move

Every individual is liable to get proper medical facilities, be it within the nation or in any international location.

For:
- Entitling civil servants for free treatment abroad will help in increasing the morale of the civil servants and will also help in enticing top talent in the bureaucracy
- Remunerations and perquisites for the lower level of the bureaucracy are often higher than that paid by the private sector; the compensations of the top officials of the government are significantly low than the market rates
- The availability of international medical facilities would help them in achieving the best possible international healthcare

Against:

- When the rupees’ value is depreciating and the country is faced with acute financial crisis, the move to entitle civil servants for medical treatment on the government expenses is bound to upsurge the load on the public exchequer (exchequer being the government body of UK to manage and collect the taxes)
- This move will enable the civil servants to not only misuse the funds allotted to them for medical treatment also will open another possibility where corruption could take place, especially when the state will provide the actual cost of the treatment along with the air fare of the patient as well as the attendant
- Flexible liberties like the treatment tenancy could be protracted by the approval of a government committee are the main reasons for the laxity of integrity in the bureaucracy
- The government health scheme covers all the government employees, this will be an additional expenses incurred
- This idea will also hamper India’s medical tourism, if we Indians seek for foreign medical treatment, why would foreigners want to come down to India for their medical treatment?

Conclusion:

- Looking at the current financial scenario of India, it is necessary for Indian officials to streamline their expenses rather than giving facilities to civil servants which in one way or the other is already in use by them.

  • Entitling civil servants for treatment abroad is not something bad for the voice to be raised against the same. Still, with the status and standard of living of the average Indian citizen, such an expense on the government framework would definitely be a matter of concern.

A country need to check the necessities, the essential requirements for the considerate living of the citizens, and then should check out for the desired requirement which could add charm to the status of the country. With these criteria, the entitled for a foreign treatment to the civil servants could just be a desired requirement.

Government can instead spend the same amount for the treatment of the poor and needy sections of the society who is deprived of the basic medical facilities just due to the lack of money. India is still a developing nation and a lot of priorities are heading much ahead of the advanced medical facilities on the government aid to the civil servants.

Though it is an agreeable argument that the civil servants work of the nation and their service makes them deserving for the entitlement, but our nation as a whole has definitely lot many priorities to be settled much before sorting this issue.
