Is discipline a form of Dictatorship?

Discipline, growth, leadership etc all these words are connected in one way or other. But dictatorship and discipline are they connected with each other. The question became more prominent when people started to assume that Prime Minister Modi will prove as a dictator. Well, he is just trying to be an effective leader by implementing discipline with a focus on country’s development, and keeping the other factors aside. However, all these discussions highlights a question, Is discipline a form of Dictatorship?

Yes

• Discipline comes best when it is designed and regulated by a single person without any hindrance, and again dictatorship means a single person government with a better sense of responsibility.

• When the country is unable to tackle the problems like corruption, poverty, population, economic instability and so on, then strict disciplinary measures have to be taken that should reflect dictatorship.

• Discipline is needed to bring stability in the restless spheres and Dictatorship gets the stability at any cost.

• In a country like India, opposition parties are always ready to obstruct the development policies, and so discipline has to be changed into a more dictatorship form for overall development.

• Dictatorship is about hierarchical values and implementing discipline is no different from following the same.

No

• Discipline allows flexibility and gives people the right to speech and expression whereas dictatorship doesn’t considers the opinions of people.

• Discipline has to be maintained and not forced whereas dictatorship is forced any cost and involves a high rate of punishment.

• Discipline doesn’t hinder the main base of India that is democracy, and still can be followed but dictatorship changes the entire concept of democracy.

• Dictatorship doesn’t implement discipline but it results in the many other negative elements like terror, oppression and lack of freedom.

• Leadership is there in all forms of government, discipline is also there in all forms of government, that doesn’t means discipline and forms of government are one and same thing.

• Discipline is an art whereas dictatorship is a dominant ruling force.

Conclusion

Whenever the word discipline comes it is related to something positive, something good and done in a precise orderly fashion. But dictatorship is the other way round. It may or may not use a right path. It can use the unfair paths, punishments and other tough ways to rule the country. It necessarily doesn’t promote the good of people. Discipline is just an art, and not a form of dictatorship government.

  • i think, discipline and dictatorship are both having the different meanings.discipline just refers to the well mannered behavior, good nature, positiveness and to get the work with a full freedom while as the dictatorship is just like as the dominating ruling government which
rules the country forcing through someone.
discipline is an art to create a good atmosphere with some optimistic views and persons ..apart from this, dictator is a forcing activity by other one to control the country..

  • There is a borderline difference between discipline and dictatorship. This difference is enough to mark a wide gap between the two. Discipline is a governing principle, whereas dictatorship is a stubborn authority. The two words carry much weightage with respect to their meaning.

When discipline rules the life, then the person get aligned and civilized with sense of self-responsibility. Discipline incorporates a form of consciousness within the individual who gets self-motivated to follow the correct path abiding the rules and regulations. Even with the strictness in his life, the person could work with a free mind, as the restriction is self-imposed.

On the contrary, dictatorship is something like a sword hanging over the head. The person has to abide the regulations with a restriction imposed on him which never gives him any duty consciousness and in turn mess up his mind with fear and threat of failure for being unable to follow the rules.

Discipline is not a form of dictatorship. Those who feel the discipline being imposed on them are actually living under the dictatorship. Discipline is autonomous that rules our mind and body in a free state and dictatorship is autocratic, which empowers the body and controls the body by superimposing its strength. Hence, discipline and dictatorship are two different classes which can never overlap each other.
