Do you agree? Discuss the ways to deal with this.
It is true to an extent that sedentary lifestyle is the mother to most of the health problems. Sedentary lifestyle is basically a very slow lifestyle with little or no physical activity in it.
Sometimes a person follows a sedentary lifestyle out of choice. Sometimes, external factors may impose the same. For example, the nature of job these days is such that one needs to be glued to his/her chair for eight to ten hours at a stretch. We drive down by sitting in the car for long hours and the most convenient way to unwind in the evening after a stressful day at work is by sitting in front of the television.
Ability of pay electricity bills online or the privilege of online shopping have all added to our sedentary hours. Hence, we may not realise but most part of our day is spend while sitting on a chair or lying on a couch. This “sitting disease” causes huge risks to our health.
In January 2010, a research on lifestyle was conducted in Australia and the Australian researchers reported that “each hour spent watching TV is linked to an 18% increase in the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, perhaps because that time is spent sitting down”. Now, this is an alarming revelation and should be taken seriously.
It is a very strange thing that human beings were evolved as a walking entity and people in the past have literally explored the world on their feet. And today, the life style has changed to an extent where a person prefers to take a car to a nearby grocery store than to walk down.
The only way to fight this sitting disease is to consciously adopt some or the other forms of physical activity. Morning walk is a miraculous habit. It helps the person to keep active throughout the day. Taking membership in a sports complex or making sure at least some form of cardio-vascular exercise is done for at least five days a week can help one get over the sedentary lifestyle. Yoga is another great form of exercise which not only improves the physical health but also the mental well-being of a person. Self motivation and self discipline are the two principles which can enable a person to shift from a sedentary lifestyle to an active lifestyle.

- What is common nowadays is leading a sedentary lifestyle. Such a lifestyle is defined as one where there is a serious lack of physical activity. In a modern society like ours, everyone is spending most of their time sitting at their workplace for 8-10 hours, sitting in their cars for travelling and then sitting on their couch to relax and watch the television. This practice of sitting all day can weaken the muscles and bones of bodies and lead to many kind of health problems, mainly chronic pain, diabetes, obesity and heart disease. This kind of lifestyle has also been viewed to speed up the aging process and may also lead to psychological problems. The most common health problem faced because of this is obesity. Due to lack of exercise and physical activity, a person tends to put on a lot of weight by just sitting and eating and not moving. This in turn leads to diabetes and increased risks of heart attacks. With the modern facilities and luxurious of internet and cars, people have forgotten that they need to move and exercise for a long and healthy life. To maintain a balanced life one needs to make sure that he engages himself in some or the other physical activity. Either a morning or evening walk or at least a 20 minute workout every day. With just sitting he can only reduce the number of days from his life.
