What does the service sector comprise of? How important is it for the business?


The service sector represents the tertiary sector of the economy.It includes intangible goods which are performed for a customer.Services may be provided to businesses as well as the end consumers. It may be in the form of advice,consultancy, discussion,experience or access to certain information. It focuses more upon the people and catering to them rather than physical goods. With the advent of IT, the increased usage of internet and the virtual marketplace, the service sector has assumed added importance and is very much in demand. Even products need service to back them up. Marketing does not end just with the sale of a product, there is the after sales service much needed to ensure customer satisfaction which in turn ensure the continuity and survival of the product in the market.
Eg. Transportation, Banking & Insurance, Food & Beverage, services rendered by a doctor or lawyer.
