Who is a Radiographer?


The Diagnostic Radiographer is a health professional who works in variety of setting of health care team and is responsible for the production of medical images which helps in medical diagnosis. They have important role in selecting and implementing the most suitable examination/test which help in medical diagnosis. Radiographers work in collaboration with radiologists, and other specialist medical practitioners.

There are two types of radiographer:

1) Diagnostic Radiographers: They are engaged in used different imaging techniques and equipment to produce medical images which are used in diagnosis of an injury or disease. They use following techniques:

• X-rays
• Ultrasound
• Fluoroscopy
• CT (computed tomography)
• MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
• Nuclear medicine
• Angiography

2) Therapeutic Radiographers: These are the radiographers who are engaged in planning and delivering accurate radiotherapy treatments to the patients by using variety of technical equipment. Following are some techniques:

• Intensity Modulated radiotherapy
• Image Guided radiotherapy
• Adaptive radiotherapy
