What do I need to get ODBC to work?

First we need a client software such as SQL*Net or Net8 on the client machine. There is however 3rd party solutions that provide a "native Oracle OCI driver" that includes Oracle networking within the driver. Thus no need for having, Oracle Net installed on the client.

Also need to decide whether to develop using the MS Oracle ODBC driver or the Oracle ODBC driver.

A TCP-IP connection is must.

We need to check server licensing as to how many users server allows to connect.

Another important point to note about this is if we are trying to PULL data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, we wouldn’t use Oracle ODBC driver for that, but if we are trying to PUSH data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, we could use ODBC but is reasonable to use OLEDB for that.
